Silicon Labs Channel Sounding

At Embedded World North America, Electropages stopped by the Silicon Labs booth to speak with Parker Dorris, Product Manager for Bluetooth. Parker demonstrated Silicon Labs' innovative Channel Sounding technology, a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) feature that accurately measures the distance between two connected devices. The demo showcased the MG24 chip, featuring dual antennas, and highlighted the system’s ability to provide reliable distance data, outperforming traditional Bluetooth RSSI methods.

Parker explained how Channel Sounding is ideal for various applications, including automotive passive entry systems, smart locks, and asset tracking, all without adding significant hardware costs. With Silicon Labs leading the way, this technology is set to be widely adopted as the Bluetooth 6.0 specification continues to gain traction.
