New Panasonic Wi-Fi modules based on Marvell chipsets are now available from
MSC. Two modules are offered, - the PAN90x0 Series supporting only the
2,4GHz Wi-Fi and secondly the PAN90x5 Series supporting 2.4GHz WLAN/BT combo
module. Both modules support 802.11 b/g/n while the combo module can be used
with Bluetooth v4.0 Smart Ready in addition. The modules are delivered in a
SMD package and in very compact size (22/26.75mm x 13.5mm x 2.4mm) and can
be delivered with antenna or as 50ohm pad versions.
The driver platforms for both host controlled Wi-Fi modules are Linux and
Android. Features include Soft-Access Point, Client Mode, Wi-Fi Direct and
security features like WPA and AES encryption. Furthermore, the software
package from Marvell consists of various applications, demonstration code
and utilities.
The cost-competitive modules provide a typical RF output power of +18dbm and
a receiver sensitivity of -98dBm. An on-board power management unit for
low-power operation is supporting deep sleep and standby modes. The
excellent 802.11 wireless radio is combined with baseband processor, medium
access controller, and encryption unit. An onboard boot ROM with patching
capability, internal SRAM, in-system programmable flash memory and other
peripherals complete the comprehensive module. Total cost of ownership is
reduced by integrating crystal oscillators.
The PAN90x0 Series is available in different versions based on Marvell’s
88W8782 SoC; with USB or SDIO including the antenna (PAN9020) or as an
50-Ohm Pad version (PAN9010). At the moment this module is only supplied
with consumer grade temperature range of 0C - 70C.
Alternatively the modules of PAN90x5 Series are also available in four
different versions based on Marvell 88W8797 SoC; either with antenna or 50
Ohm Pad and in consumer grade temperature range or in extended temperature
grade from -30 – 85°C. The implemented 2x2 MiMo technology on this module
offers improved radio range and throughput, but allows also simultaneous
data transmission over multiple streams using the same frequency.
Development kits are also available.
