Cypress Semiconductor has announced that its TrueTouch capacitive
touchscreen controller was selected by premium Chinese smartphone brand,
vivo, for its next-generation vivo Y29 smartphone. Cypress's TMA545
controller provides an easy-wake letter gesture feature that enables the
user to wake the phone's screen from sleep-mode and open a common
application by simply drawing a letter on the screen with a finger. An
example would be tracing the letter 'C' on the screen to wake the phone and
open the camera.
The TrueTouch-powered touchscreen complements the vivo Y29 smartphone's
world-class features, which include a 13.0-megapixel camera that is ideal
for taking pictures in dim light and Hi-Fi audio for pristine music
playback. TrueTouch controllers bring the market's most accurate gloved
finger tracking and most robust water tolerance to the phone, while
contributing to its thin design and long battery life.
"The vivo Y29 is another strong example of TrueTouch bringing
industry-leading features and reliability to a top-of-the-line smartphone,"
said Joe Montalbo, vice president of the TrueTouch Business Unit, Cypress.
"China's smartphone market is the largest in the world and the vivo brand
has earned recognition as a leading innovator there. This design win aligns
with our strategy to enable our customers to differentiate their products in
this competitive market."
Electronic noise from displays and after-market chargers can disrupt a
touchscreen's ability to operate properly. Cypress's ChargerArmor feature
delivers unprecedented 40 volt peak-to-peak (Vpp) charger noise immunity
measured from 1 to 500 kHz with an ultra-thin 0.5-mm cover lens and a
finger-size up to 22mm - the most stringent specifications used to measure
any touchscreen controller. No competing controllers deliver noise immunity
over 15Vpp under these conditions.
With Cypress's patented DualSense technology to execute both
self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device,
TrueTouch controllers offer the industry's best waterproofing for seamless
performance in real-world conditions, including the presence of rain,
condensation, or sweat. By combining this powerful architecture with an
industry leading 32-bit ARM Cortex M-Core processor that is known for
high-efficiency MIPS/mW, TrueTouch controllers offer 120Hz refresh rates and
low power consumption. The controllers drive the touchscreen at 10V and at
high frequency with narrow-band, single-pass scanning and advanced hardware
DSP filtering, says the company.
