ProTek Devices has introduced a new series of ultra-low capacitance
transient voltage suppressor arrays (TVS arrays) for over-voltage circuit
protection in applications such as smartphones, Ethernet, USB and more. The
series consists of five components with rated stand-off voltages between
5-24V. Other voltages are available on request. The components are also
packaged in a low-profile miniature DFN-2 package.
The GBLCxxCDN series' capacitance is rated at 3pF (typical). Components from
the series are available in a bidirectional configuration. They are rated at
350W peaks pulse power per line for an 8/20 microseconds wave shape. The
series is also compatible with IEC standard 61000-4-2 for electrostatic
discharge (ESD): air - 15kV, contact - 8kV. The device exceeds level four
by handling 10kV contact and 25kV air discharges. It is also compatible with
IEC 61000-4-4 for electrical fast transients (EFT): 40A - 5/50ns, and with
IEC 61000-4-5 (surge). Design engineers are aware that at higher operating
frequencies or faster edge rates, insertion loss and signal integrity are a
major concern this series aids design engineers in addressing this concern,
says the company.
The GBLCxxCDN series is seen as ideal for use as a replacement for
multilayer varistors (MLV [0805]). It protects one power or I/O port and
offers ESD protection at > 25kV. It also provides a low clamping voltage and
is RoHS and REACH compliant. In addition to the low-profile miniature JEDEC
DFN-2 package, the series components have an approximate weight of only 0.8
milligrams.
Other mechanical characteristics include lead-free pure-tin plating
(annealed) and a solder reflow temperature of (pure-tin - Sn, 100) 260C to
270C. The flammability rating is UL 94V-0. Operating and storage temperature
is -55C to 150C.
