Mouser has announced it is now stocking the CY5670 CySmart Bluetooth USB
Dongle from Cypress Semiconductor. The CySmart Dongle is a Bluetooth Low
Energy (LE) USB based development tool that emulates a Bluetooth Generic
Access Profile central device and supports Bluetooth LE application
development and debugging. The CY5670 supports Bluetooth 4.1 and can connect
to any Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1 compliant device.
The Bluetooth USB dongle is used for developing and debugging Bluetooth LE
applications. The CY5670 is based on the Cypress PSoC(r) 5LP programmable
system-on-chip, which uses an ARM(r) Cortex M3 core. This Bluetooth dongle
is accessed and configured with the free Cypress CySmart Windows software
which provides detailed information about the Bluetooth connection. With
CySmart Windows loaded on a compatible PC, developers can monitor all
Bluetooth communications and status, including a list and addresses of
discovered devices, a formatted display of all discovered peripheral device
communications including length of data and flags, a display of all
responses received from scanned Bluetooth devices in the area, and a list of
already discovered Bluetooth devices. Once a device is detected and
connected to the CySmart dongle, the device name and all details and
attributes are available.
The CySmart Windows interface also provides support for sending commands to
the dongle to modify parameters and operation. An editor interface allows
sending L2CAP channel data while monitoring detailed communications
information listed in raw hexadecimal.
The CySmart USB dongle hardware provides a reset button and also a user
programmable button. A power LED and status LED provide additional
information. An on-board 10-pin connector is used for updating the PSoC 5LP
firmware, says the company.
