Modular commutation encoders are rugged and accurate

Generating standard U/V/W signals for commutating brushless DC motors, CUI's AMT31 series rugged, high-accuracy encoders are now available from Digi-Key. The series is designed to address a number of challenges encountered in BLDC applications. Due to the innovative AMT platform, the AMT31 series is not susceptible to contaminants such as dirt, dust, and oil that typically plague encoders in industrial environments. The design also simplifies the assembly process, removing the need to conduct back-EMF, and allowing a number of parameters to be set via GUI or the encoder's serial interface, including pole count, commutation angle, and zero position. Combined with an operating temperature range of -40C to 105C, high accuracy, a compact package, and low current draw, the AMT provides a compelling solution for a range of industrial, automation, robotics, and renewable-energy applications, says the company.
