Diodes' AZV5002, available from Digi-Key, is a low-power, cost-effective headset detection IC. It includes a comparator that integrated internal hysteresis, OR gate, and N-channel MOSFET are designed to detect the assertion of a headset with a microphone.
Pull-up resistors for the detection pins are internalized and a built in resistor divider provides the reference voltage for detecting the left audio channel. The logic low-output of the OR gate indicates the headset has been connected properly.
The device is available in a miniaturized package, U-QFN1418-10, which helps reduce the space needed on PCB boards. Suitable for mobile phones, tablets, battery-powered devices, alarm and security systems.
