Available now from Mouser, the Panasonic PAN1740 Beacon is a Bluetooth Low Energy device based on the single-mode BT smart system-on-chip PAN1740. The Beacon can run on one single-coin battery for many years due to its ultra-low power consumption of less than 5mA in TX mode. The Beacon is compact at 26mm x 24mm and includes an antenna. The device comes preconfigured for out-of-the-box use and transmits a unique user ID number to smartphones, tablets or personal computers. An app uses that ID to execute a course of action like indoor positioning, providing shoppers with personalised sales pitches, promotions at specific store locations. This allows the user to get additional information on points of interest.
