Stocked by Mouser, the Maxim MAX31912 ultra-low power translator/serialisers are an industrial interface serialiser that translates, conditions, and serialises the 24V digital output of sensors and switches. These are used in industrial, process, and building automation with 5V CMOS-compatible signals required by microcontrollers.
The device provides the front-end interface circuit of a programmable logic controller (PLC) digital input module. It features integrated current limiting, lowpass filtering, and channel serialisation. Input current limiting allows a significant reduction in power consumed from the field voltage supply as compared to traditional discrete resistor-divider implementations. Selectable on-chip lowpass filters allow flexible debouncing and filtering of sensor outputs based on the application.
The Maxim MAX31912EVKIT Evaluation Kit is also available and provides the hardware and software graphical user interface (GUI) necessary to evaluate the MAX31912. The evaluation kit includes a MAX31912AUI+ installed as well as a digital isolator and USB-to-SPI interface. The USB-to-SPI dongle is a separate PCB that can be used to interact with the evaluation kit software. This dongle is optional and is not necessary for the proper operation of the devices if the user supplies the SPI interface.
