World’s smallest high-frequency inductors have required board space

20-06-2016 | Murata | Passives

Murata has introduced the LQP01HQ series of high-frequency inductors, achieving the same industry-leading, high-Q characteristics as previous devices but occupying just half the board mounting area. The 008004 size inductors are the world’s smallest, measuring just 0.25mm x 0.125mm, and are aimed at manufacturers of mobile devices, such as smartphones and wearable products, who require more compact devices as they strive to add functionality and improve performance. High-frequency wireless communication circuits demand inductors with high-Q characteristics for impedance matching and similar purposes in order to reduce circuit losses and achieve greater efficiency. Production availability of the LQP01HQ series will be from August 2016 and will include 25 versions with inductance ratings ranging from 0.3nH to 2.7nH, with a range extension of up to 10nH due to be added at the series by the end of 2016, says the company.
