Housed in the ultra-compact chip-level CLP1007-5L package, a new 4-line ESD protection arrays for portable electronics has been unveiled by Vishay.
Offering an extreme size reduction over previous-generation components without sacrificing performance, the VBUS54FD-SD1 offers low capacitance and leakage current for the protection of high-speed data lines against transient voltage signals.
Measuring only 1mm x 0.7mm with a low profile of just 0.27mm, the protection array takes 70% less board space than previous-generation devices and provides a seven-fold reduction in volume.
Offering a low load capacitance of 0.9pF typical and a 'flow through' design, the VBUS54FD-SD1 is optimized for the protection of high-speed data lines including HDMI, DisplayPort, eSATA, USB 3.0, 1394 / FireWire, and Thunderbolt in mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, and portable gaming systems. The space-saving device also makes it possible to provide USB 3.0 interface protection in smartphones for the first time.
The protection array features a low maximum leakage current of <0.1µA at the working voltage of 5.5V, a breakdown voltage of 7.5V typical at 1 mA, and a maximum clamping voltage of 15V at 3A. The VBUS54FD-SD1 provides transient protection for data lines as per IEC 61000-4-2 at ± 15kV (air and contact discharge). The device offers a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 1 in accordance with J-STD-020, supports reflow soldering to +260C, says the company.
