New EERAM memory offers unlimited endurance

Available at distributor Rutronik, theI2C EERAM memory, from Microchip, presents a new low-cost, low-risk memory solution offering unlimited endurance and safe data storage at power loss. The new memory is an easy to implement, non-volatile SRAM (NVSRAM) that offers a robust and dependable data solution thanks to compromising the two reliable memory technologies, EEPROM and SRAM, on a single chip. It is a standalone SRAM with shadow EEPROM back-up in a single chip that helps to automatically retain the contents of the SRAM memory when system power is lost. It does not require an external battery to safely store data during a power-loss event, but uses a small, external capacitor to provide the energy needed to store the contents of the SRAM on to the EEPROM in case of power breakdown. The EERAM offers instant random writes to the array with no write-cycle delay. The family is available in 4Kb and 16Kb densities, in standard 8-pin SOIC, TSSOP and PDIP packages with 3V and 5V options, in industrial (-40C up to +85C) and automotive (-40C up to +125C) temperature ranges and as an automotive-grade memory. Thus, the I2C EERAM memory is ideal for applications that need to constantly or instantaneously record, update or monitor data in sectors including metering, automotive and industrial.
