Vishay Intertechnology has announced its popular VY1 and VY2 series of AC line rated ceramic disc safety capacitors are now extended by a Mini Size Series with Y5V ceramic dielectrics. Featuring body diameters down to 7.5mm, the Vishay BCcomponents VY1…Y5V and VY2…Y5V are designed to save space, lower costs, and increase reliability for Class X1 (760VAC) / Y1 (500VAC) and Class X1 (440VAC) / Y2 (300VAC) applications, respectively, in accordance with IEC 60384-14.4.
The Y5V dielectric of the devices released today provides a higher dielectric constant, allowing for a reduction in diameter without losing capacitance value.
The series are optimized for RFI and AC line filtering applications in compact power supplies, power adapters for home automation devices, E-meters, home appliances, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment. The Mini Size Series safety capacitors offer a capacitance range from 1,000pF to 10,000pF — with tolerances of ±20% — and may be operated from -40C to +125C.
The devices consist of a silver-plated ceramic disc with tinned copper-clad steel connection leads offering 0.6mm diameters. The capacitors are available with vertical (inline) kinked leads or straight leads with spacing of 10mm or 12.5mm for the VY1…Y5V and 5mm, 7.5mm, 10mm, or 12.5mm for the VY2…Y5V. RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green, the components' encapsulation is made of flame-resistant epoxy resin in accordance with UL 94 V-0.
