Rutronik together with the Chemnitz University of Technology are presenting their research project “Expanding monitoring and analysis functions in the battery management system based on impedance spectroscopy”. It allows impedance spectroscopy to be used with embedded systems as well for the first time and opens up new possibilities regarding range forecasts for electric mobility.
Impedance spectroscopy enables more accurate analysis and diagnosis of battery systems than the procedure currently used, thus ensuring reliable forecasts e.g. regarding their RUL (remaining useful life) and State-of-Health (SoH). This means that range forecasts for electric vehicles can be determined on a sound basis.
Up to now, the use of impedance spectroscopy for lithium-ion batteries has been confined to laboratory environments. The research project has now also applied the method to embedded systems for the first time. It is particularly interesting for mobile systems, above all in electric mobility, for professional tools, mobile robots, but also for medical devices and UPS systems.
