Available now from Mouser, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B ARMv8 w/ 1GB RAM has the same Pi features as previously but with twice the ram and a faster processor. The model has had two major upgrades. The first upgrade is a next generation Quad Core Broadcom BCM2837 64-bit ARMv8 processor, which offers speeds of up to 1.2GHz compared to the previous 900MHz on the Pi 2. The second upgrade includes the addition of a built-in BCM43143 WiFi chip, allowing the device to go wireless without additional peripherals. It doesn’t require any WiFi adapters. The device is an excellent IoT solution with on-board BLE. The device’s power source has been upgraded to 2.5A instead of 2A, which allows it to power more powerful devices over USB ports. It includes four built-in USB ports for connectivity to a mouse, keyboard, or anything with a USB connection. A USB hub can also be used for further connections. It is recommended to use a powered hub to not overtax the on-board voltage regulator. To power the device, plug any USB power supply into the micro-USB port. The device has no power button so it boots when power is applied. To turn off the device off, shut it down, then remove power. The low-level peripherals on the Pi make it great for hardware hacking. The 0.1" spaced 40-pin GPIO header gives access to 27 GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI, 3.3 and 5V sources.
