Texas Instruments unveiled a state-of-the-art DLP technology for high-resolution headlight systems at the CES 2018 Show. The new DLP chipset is claimed to be the only offering on the market that combines full programmability and the highest resolution – more than one million addressable pixels per headlight – exceeding the resolution of existing ADB technologies by more than 10,000 times.
Automakers and Tier-1 suppliers are able to use this new programmable ADB solution to create headlight systems that maximise brightness for drivers on the road while minimising the glare to oncoming traffic or reflections from retroreflective traffic signs. This new technology works with any light source, including laser and LED illumination, and offers engineers a way to more accurately control light distribution on the road with customisable beam patterns.
This new technology for high-resolution headlight systems also allows automakers and Tier-1 suppliers to transform headlight systems into a new communication channel by projecting appropriate information on the road. On-road light projection can improve communication between pedestrians, drivers and other vehicles, and provide customers with a way to address future communication requirements required for self-driving and autonomous vehicle systems.
