High power TVS diodes offer superior clamping

The new LTKAK Series TVS Diodes from Littelfuse is now available through TTI Europe. Proving superior clamping characteristics in comparison to standard silicon avalanche diodes, the series features Littelfuse Foldbak technology, which gives a clamping voltage lower than avalanche voltage but above rated working voltage. Offered in the SMTO-218 package, the diodes are compact and allow designers to save board space. Suitable applications for the series include cell phone base stations, industrial TVSS, railway trackside signalling and control cabinets, power grid and power distribution systems, and defence and avionics applications.
There are two families of devices in the new series TVS diodes, the LTKAK6 and LTKAK10; both offer superior clamping characteristics over standard SAD technologies thanks to the Foldbak technology. This gives a clamping voltage lower than the avalanche voltage (but above the rated working voltage), and therefore, any voltage rise due to increased current conduction is kept to a minimum, providing the best possible protection level. Surge protection is also excellent at 6kA surge capability for the LTKAK6 and 10kA surge capability for the LTKAK10 (8x20µs waveform).
