Positioning system sets high-performance benchmarks in reliability and handling

The PXV 2-D absolute positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs sets high-performance benchmarks with excellent reliability and handling. With its large reading window, the system retains an adequate number of codes in view, even in connection to track switches and modifications to the code tape. Precise positioning is guaranteed at all times. With six years of experience, the PCV system has helped to form the development of the PXV. The reading window of the device has been enlarged to approx. 120mm x 80mm, which means the Data Matrix code tape is constantly located within the sending range. Mounting and commissioning are simpler, and plant availability is also bettered. The reading window has an extended depth of focus range, enabling it to obtain even more codes simultaneously and also guarantee position detection through multiple redundancy. Unlike other systems available, the solution requires only a 2D camera, helping that irritation relating to track switches is removed. To stop this, the cameras in the two-camera systems can collect the relevant differing position signals in these areas. An amount of contamination on the code tape is frequently unavoidable during everyday operation. For this reason, the codes for the solution have been expanded to 15mm x 15mm without jeopardising the resolution, and the 'coarse-grained' design ensures that they are unaffected by contamination. The new safePXV accomplishes all that a single positioning system can with just one sensor. The new safety technology combines a 2D reader with a three-coloured data matrix code tape. This special code tape contains two overlapping data matrix codes in red and blue. The 2D reader is provided with two different coloured LED rings — also red and blue. These rings are activated separately and then read just one data matrix code each. An SIL 3/PL e absolute position is always offered as the result.
