New series of screw-terminal capacitors offer useful life to 5000 hours

Vishay Intertechnology has extended the maximum voltage rating of the Vishay BCcomponents 500 PGP-ST series of aluminium screw-terminal capacitors to 500V while more than doubling its useful life to 5,000 hours at +85C. As polarized aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte, the series devices are optimised for DC-linking in power conversion electronics rated at 20kW and above — including UPS systems, large motor drives, and solar inverters. Their 500V rating provides increased voltage headroom in these applications while allowing three-phase, 380V designs to be re-used in 480V systems by simply upgrading the capacitors and allowing solar inverter systems to be upgraded for 1000V maximum input. The series is offered in nine case sizes ranging from 50mm x 80mm to 90mm x 220mm. Providing high efficiency, the devices feature capacitance ratings from 680µF to 22,000µF over a voltage range from 350V to 500V. The capacitors provide a cylindrical aluminium case insulated with a blue sleeve and pressure relief in their sealing disc. The RoHS-compliant devices are available with 8mm terminals on the standard high post M5 disc or with 13mm terminals featuring the high current M6 disc.
