Mid-power UVC with quartz window delivers remarkably long lifetime

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a ceramic mid-power ultraviolet (UVC) emitting diode for sanitation, sterilisation, and purification applications. Highlighting a quartz window, the VLMU35CM..-280-120 provides a remarkably long lifetime in a compact 3.5mm x 3.5mm x 1.2mm surface-mount package. Created to replace mercury UVC lamps, the device provides an emission angle of ±60-degrees and radiant power to 18mW at 100mA with no need for an external lens. Built on AlGaN technology, the device offers forward current up to 150mA, forward voltage down to 4V, and a wavelength range of 270nm to 290nm. The emitter diode's specifications make it perfect for water and air purification, medical disinfection, physical surface sterilisation, and portable sanitisers. RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green, the device is compatible with reflow soldering processes and highlights a Moisture Sensitivity Level of three in accordance with J-STD-020
