Texas Instruments DRV887x Brushed DC Motor Drivers are flexible motor drivers for use in a wide variety of end applications. These devices combine an N-channel H-bridge, charge pump regulator, current proportional output, current sensing and regulation, and protection circuitry. The charge pump increases efficiency by enabling for both high-side and low-side N-channels MOSFETs and 100% duty cycle support. This family of devices comes in pin to pin, scalable RDS(on) options to assist different loads with the minimum of design changes.
Integrated current sensing provides for the driver to control the motor current during startup and high load events. A current limit can be established with an adjustable external voltage reference. Furthermore, the devices offer an output current proportional to the motor load current. This can be employed to detect motor stall or change in load conditions. The integrated current sensing utilises an internal current mirror architecture, eliminating the requirement for a large power shunt resistor, saving board area and lessening system cost.
A low-power sleep mode is provided to deliver ultra-low quiescent current draw by shutting down most of the internal circuitry. Internal protection features are offered for supply UVLO, CPUV, OCP, and device overtemperature. Fault conditions are indicated on nFAULT.
Targeted applications include brushed DC motors; major and small home appliances; vacuum, humanoid, and toy robotics; printers and scanners; smart meters, ATMs, currency counters, and EPOS; servo motors and actuators.
