Evaluation kit for applications wanting to consume power over a USB Type-C connector

The Cypress CY4533 EZ-PD Barrel Connector Replacement (BCR) Evaluation Kit (EVK) is based on the BCR product in the company’s USB Type-C and Power Delivery controllers. The EVK is available now from RS Components.

This EVK is designed to be an evaluation vehicle for applications that want to consume power over a USB Type-C Connector. A device, such as a shaver, speaker, power tools, modem etc. that use a barrel connector for power will profit from employing a universal power interface such as USB Type-C. To make the transition easier, the EVK gives a USB Type-C receptacle to consume power from a charger and then supply it via a terminal block. A barrel connector can be connected to this block using wires to change a barrel input to USB Type-C.

EZ-PD Barrel Connector Replacement is the company’s highly-integrated USB Type-C port controller aimed at electronic devices that have legacy barrel connectors (up to 100W) or USB micro-B connectors for power such as smart speakers, power tools, drones, and other rechargeable devices. This device complies with the latest USB Type-C and USB PD standards and allows users to speedily convert their devices from being powered through a barrel connector to via the USB-C connector with few external components and no firmware development is needed.
