Texas Instruments ADS131M04 4-Channel ADC is a 24-bit delta-sigma ADC that offers a wide dynamic range, low power, and energy-measurement-specific features. This makes these devices attractive for energy metering, power metrology, and circuit breaker applications. The ADC inputs can be interfaced directly into a power transformer or current transformer or to a resistor-divider network to measure voltage or to a Rogowski coil to measure current.
The individual ADC channels can be individually configured depending on the sensor input. A low-noise, PGA gives gains ranging from one to 128 to amplify low-level signals. Furthermore, this device combines channel-to-channel phase calibration and offset and gain calibration registers to help eliminate signal chain errors. A low-drift, 1.2V reference is integrated into the device reducing PCB area. CRC options can be individually enabled on the data input, data output, and register map to ensure communication integrity.
The complete AFE solution is provided in a 20-pin TSSOP or leadless 20-pin WQFN package and is specified over the industrial temperature range of –40C to +125C.
The device is ideal for electricity meters, both commercial and residential, circuit breakers, battery test equipment, and battery management systems.
