Hirose PCB sockets are connectors designed to allow the connection of two PCBs without cabling. The company's DF40 Series 0.4 mm board to board and board to FPC header and socket connectors offer a high density, low profile space-saving design. The width of these connectors is a minimum of 3.38mm. However, there is still ample space for a vacuum area for pick and place mounting.

This series of connectors are available with a range of stack heights from 1.5mm to 4mm for high-density mounting and design versatility. The contacts of the series provide high contact reliability with an effective mating length of 0.45mm on the lowest 1.5mm stacking height. Nickel-plated barriers protect the contact areas from solder wicking. These 0.4mm connectors provide a locking mechanism to stop accidental unmating. Once mating is complete, a tactile click is produced to give mating assurance. Guide ribs on the connector allow the connector to self-align by 0.33mm throughout mating.

These connectors have a reinforced structure with shock-absorbing ribs that protect against damage induced by impact or vibration. When mated the housing of these connectors covers the contacts shielding them from dust and debris and preventing shorting. The SMT leads are located close to the connector which also stops contaminants from producing shorts on the exposed contacts

The connectors are ideal for employment in miniature devices. Applications include mobile phones, LCDs, developer chip sets, Notebook PCs and keyboards.
