RS-485 transceivers designed for industrial applications

The Texas Instruments THVD1520 5V is a robust, half-duplex RS-485 transceiver designed for industrial applications. The device removes the requirement of extra system-level protection components. This is given by the bus pins immunity to high levels of IEC contact discharge ESD events.

The transceivers operate from a single 5V supply. Furthermore, the device offers a wide, common-mode voltage range and low input leakage on bus pins. This makes the transceivers ideal for multi-point applications over long cable runs.

The transceiver is provided in an industry-standard eight-pin SOIC package, for drop-in compatibility and is characterised for ambient temperatures from –40C to 125C.

Typical applications include factory automation and control, building automation, HVAC systems, video surveillance, and smart meters.
