Proximity and ambient light sensor with infrared emitter

The Vishay Semiconductor VCNL4010, available now from RS Components, is a fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor. Fully integrated meaning the infrared emitter is incorporated in the package. It has 16-bit resolution. It comprises a signal processing IC and features standard I2C communication interface. It also features an interrupt function.

This surface mount device measures 3.95mm x 3.95mm x 0.75mm. The integrated modules provided are IRED, ALS-PD and proximity sensor. The supply voltage range VDD

is from 2.5V to 3.6V. Communication is via a I2C interface. The device offers a low stand by current consumption of 1.5μA. The device is compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU in accordance to WEEE 2002/96/EC.

Typical applications include proximity sensor for mobile devices for touch screen locking, power

saving, etc.; integrated ambient light function for display/keypad contrast control and dimming of mobile devices; proximity/optical switch for consumer, computing and industrial devices and displays; and dimming control for consumer, computing and industrial displays.
