USB Type-C and USB PD IC with 5V load switch gives VBUS protection

Texas Instruments TPS65982BB USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery IC offers a USB billboard endpoint for USB-PD devices implementing alternate modes.

The integrated internal USB multiplexor allows the device to support up to two USB Type-C ports. The device communicates with USB-PD port controllers employing an I2C interface to provide the billboard as well as update stored billboard strings. An integrated 5V load switch gives VBUS protection for an optional USB Type-A port.

Typical applications include docking systems, charger adapters, USB PD devices, USB PD–enabled bus-powered devices, and DisplayPort and Thunderbolt.
