Eval kit for ToF distance sensing for multiple applications

Mouser is now stocking the ams TMF8801-EVM evaluation kit. The kit enables engineers to evaluate the operation of the ams TMF8801 1D ToF sensor for applications including industrial robotics, smartphones, and autonomous appliances.

The kit includes a ToF sensor enclosure and sample glass, USB type A to micro-USB cable, USB flash drive with EVM GUI software, and EVM documentation.

The onboard ToF sensor provides highly accurate depth accuracy detection via a sub-nanosecond light pulse and an anti-aliasing 'stop-watch' method to calculate round-trip time of the pulse. The device delivers single-zone detection of an object irrespective of the colour, reflectivity, and texture. This single module with VCSEL emitter provides high dynamic range and detection sensing measurements with a 20mm to 2,500mm distance range. This device employs highly sensitive single-photon avalanche diode detection with fast, compact time-to-digital converters to make extremely accurate distance measurements within ±5% and can operate in both dark environments and in the presence of sunlight.

At only 2.2mm x 3.6mm x 1mm, the device is more than 30% smaller than other ToF sensors on the market, making it excellent for compact, space-constrained designs in applications including laser detect auto-focus, presence detection, object and collision avoidance, industrial ranging, fast ranging navigation detection, and inventory control.
