One of Würth Elektronik’s most significant SMT high-current inductor innovations is to increase its WE-HCM series portfolio with 1012, 4030 and 5030 packages. The flat-wire coils with MnZn core are characterised by remarkably low resistance, low core losses, and a particularly high current carrying capacity. With the small footprint, the devices are an excellent choice for developers and manufacturers with these new, more compact device designs.
The WE-HCM1012 high-current inductor uses just 10mm x 6mm of space on the board and holds its flat-wire coil in a 12mm high package. The rated current of 84A and saturation current over 125A is also high. WE-HCM1012 is offered in variants with inductances of 0.07µH 0.1µH, 0.12µH and 0.15µH.
The two new devices are also unusually space-saving in footprint and height. As they are just 3mm high, they are ideal for convertible notebooks and tablets, for example. Applications include multiphase switching regulators, CPU/RAM power supply, power PC or graphics cards. The saturation current goes up to 45A, and the rated current is 59A. All versions are specified for an operating temperature range from 40C to +125C.
