Vishay Intertechnology, Inc has upgraded the Vishay BCcomponents 193 PUR-SI Solar series of snap-in power aluminium capacitors with a higher rated voltage of 570V and a category voltage of 475V. Aimed at solar applications, the devices provide operation up to 600V at specific conditions, long useful life, and high-rated ripple current up to 2.46A at +105C and 100Hz.

At 570V, the enhanced series provides a maximum operating temperature of +60C and endurance of 5000 hours (no ripple current applied). At 475V, the maximum temperature can be extended to +105C, and the useful life is 6000 hours. With their capability to fulfil the open-circuit voltage condition up to 600V, the components lower the overall cost of solar PV inverters by decreasing the number of electrolytic capacitors needed, permitting designers to employ one capacitor for string input voltages of 600V and two for 1200V.

Providing a cylindrical aluminium case with a pressure relief valve and insulated with a blue sleeve, the series capacitors are offered in five case sizes ranging from 35mm x 30mm to 35mm x 60mm. As polarised aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte, the RoHS-compliant devices are ideal for DC-Link buffering and filtering applications. As well as solar PV inverters, typical end products will incorporate industrial motor controls and power supplies.
