Three-phase EMC filter series developed for machine safety

29-09-2022 | Schurter | Power

Schurter has expanded the FMAC NEO and FMAD NEO 3-phase filter families to meet IEC 60204-1. Downsized for a smaller footprint, without any compromise to performance, the two new filter series are ideal for energy applications including EV fast charging and battery storage and industrial applications in general.

Any machine or system released to the European market must display a CE marking. This marking notes that the manufacturer guarantees the product is safe for humans and machine equipment and complies with all relevant legal and technical requirements. The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU define minimum standards for safety and occupational health requirements in Europe. One harmonising standard is IEC 60204-1, which specifies machines' requirements for electrical safety, applies to electrical, electronic, and programmable equipment and networked machines, including control cabinets. The filters meet all machine safety requirements outlined in IEC 60204-1 standard, particularly that the filters have a short discharge time of the capacitors so that they provide a touchable residual voltage of less than 60V in one or two seconds after disconnecting the voltage. The insulation value between phases and ground is at least 1MOhm, achieved with larger resisters. Also, any AC socket on the machine is RCD protected 30mA for human protection.

Designed for three-phase or three-phase with neutral applications, The series is ENEC and UL approved for rated currents 16A to 230A at 300/520VAC 50/60Hz at an ambient temperature of 50C. Standard versions are created for industrial applications with leakage currents of <13mA. Versions <3mA are offered for leakage-critical applications. The dielectric strength is >2.25kVDC L-L and 2.75kVDC L-PE. The operating temperature range is from -40C to 100C.
