OMC offers a range of ultrabright, low-power-consumption LED lighting strips in polycarbonate housings with a diameter that matches that of T5 fluorescent tubes. These low-voltage LED strips provide energy savings of up to 65% over traditional fluorescent sources and vastly increased lifetime, resulting in decreased waste and maintenance – making them ideal for a diverse range of industrial OEM applications.
Explains William Heath, commercial director, OMC: "Because they convert electrical energy into useful light more efficiently than incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps found many applications in commercial, domestic and industrial settings during the 20th century. However, the development of LED lighting over the past couple of decades has resulted in a further change in luminous efficacy (lumens out per watt in – or how well the light source produces visible light) and energy efficiency. LED lighting also delivers longer service life, meaning reduced waste and maintenance – and is inherently more environmentally friendly due to enhanced recyclability and no mercury usage. Our industrial components incorporate design features such as extremely tight bin-grading for the individual LEDs' forward voltage and light output along each strip. This results in more consistent brightness along each unit and greatly enhanced reliability by helping to prevent issues such as current-hogging and thermal runaway that can often lead to LED chains failing prematurely."
These ultrabright, low power-consumption T5-style LED lighting strips are ideal for diverse industrial usage, where OEMs can readily integrate them into their applications. Very low power consumption, combined with high efficiency and brightness, ensures high-quality light output but with far lower electricity usage and associated carbon footprint. Decades-long life expectancies all but eliminate waste bulbs and tubes – and because LED light sources typically radiate far less heat than traditional counterparts, they are safer and more comfortable, too, and are particularly advantageous for use in low-temperature environments. Solid-state lighting technology is also electromagnetically benign, generating far less RF interference than fluorescent or electroluminescent technologies.
The diameter of the polycarbonate housing matches that of a T5 fluorescent tube, simplifying inclusion into existing product designs, and it is supplied with a selection of mounting clips and fixings for easy implementation across the widest possible range of applications. No fluorescent fitting is needed; power input is through a simple, low voltage, 24VDC wire feed into the rear of the tube. This saves space and cost, which means they can be easily dimmed using standard methods such as PWM and, with appropriate interface modules, can also be connected to standard lighting controls such as DMX or DALI systems.
Available in lengths from 300mm up to 1500mm, the convenient and compact tube size makes this LED lighting component an excellent alternative to fluorescent light sources for OEMs to build into applications such as racking systems, benches and workstations, industrial and CNC machinery, display systems, industrial chillers, vending machines and more.
