Compact and rugged high surge multilayer varistors for certain harsh environments

06-03-2025 | Bourns | Passives

Bourns, Inc. has announced its new Model ZV50S2220452NIR1 High Surge Multilayer Varistor. Presented in a compact 2220 surface mount package, these ruggedised multilayer varistors are specifically developed to meet the lifespan necessities in certain applications that operate in certain harsh environments. Ideal for space-constrained designs, the varistors feature outstanding surge current capability that is five times higher than that of the same size standard varistors.

Furthermore, the latest multilayer varistors deliver excellent transient energy absorption due to their improved energy volume distribution and power dissipation. They feature a response time of less than two nanoseconds, a 50Vrms-rated voltage with a peak pulse surge current of 4,500A and an operating temperature range of –55C to +125C. Designs that can benefit from the overvoltage protection capabilities of these new varistors include RRU for 5G applications, PoE, base stations, wireless infrastructure, and measurement and control devices.
