Trojan Electronics: Addressing Manufacturing Challenges

16-05-2024 | By Seb Springall

With both output and new orders falling recently, we talk to David O’Keeffe from contract electronics manufacturer, Trojan Electronics, about the sector.

He said: “The sector is of vital importance to our local and global economy because we supply the solutions our people need whether medical, transport, industrial, food or anything else.

“However, we need to recognise there are challenges ahead. We need to look closely at our supply chains as we don’t want to have a repeat of what happened during Covid where supply chain disruption pushed up prices to unprecedented levels or in some cases meant production of some products had to be stopped altogether. This is where it becomes essential to work closely with your contract electronics manufacturing partner, because they can help minimise market turbulence by offering a number of alternative options including inventory and procurement solutions as well as product redesign.

He added: "Whilst many original equipment manufacturers remain cautious, and justifiably so, there are opportunities ahead for greater collaboration and therefore efficiency. This is where the relationship aspect with your contract electronics manufacturing partner comes into its own.”

As well as savings, recent figures show equipment manufacturers are putting new employment on hold as well as minimising inventory and cutting back on purchasing.

O’Keeffe commented: "This has an impact not only on prices, but also on inflation. To help address this, we need to consider and collaborate around providing alternative solutions to help not just ease cost pressures, but increase manufacturing output.”

Trojan Electronics provides contract electronics manufacturing services to several sectors across the UK including aerospace, medical, environmental monitoring, communications, automotive, industrial and consumer from its 180,000 square feet facility in Swansea.
