New resource site debuts 48V designs

05-01-2023 | Mouser Electronics | Industrial

Mouser has launched a new resource site in collaboration with Vicor, offering a range of resources for 48V products and power designs. The site provides a collection of in-depth articles, videos, and infographics, presenting designers and manufacturers with a comprehensive resource to produce new power designs with higher voltage 48V distribution.

Unlike many common 12V systems, 48V systems can support the higher power levels needed to increase performance and functionality. As power increases, 12V buses become less efficient and take up more space and weight for cables to carry higher currents. 48V systems eliminate these space and weight inefficiencies by drastically reducing currents and power losses.

The new 48V resource site features a recent instalment of Electronic Engineering Journal’s Chalk Talk video series, which provides an easy-to-understand overview of the benefits, history, and applications of 48V solutions. The site also highlights 48V products from Vicor, connecting engineers directly to the solutions needed for these advanced power designs. The company's 48V architectures substantially reduce I2R losses and convert directly from 48V to the load voltage without first regulating to 12V, benefitting many industries, including UAV, robotics, and rail.

The 48V site also features links to informative product information, videos, and more, including an article that explains why power designs are transitioning from 12V to 48V. The article analyses the benefits of 48V power designs and the applications this technology could transform.

Mouser offers a wide range of the company's products, including power supplies, power management ICs, filters, and DC-DC converters, such as the DCM DC-DC converter modules. Its DCM modules are high-power-density, isolated and regulated devices with up to 600W output power and more than 93% efficiency.
