Sfera Labs Unveils Modular Industrial Servers Powered by Raspberry Pi CM

At Embedded World 2025, Electropages caught up with Maria Chizzali, co-founder of Sfera Labs, to explore their latest innovations in modular industrial automation. Sfera Labs is known for its open-architecture, Raspberry Pi–based solutions, and this year they showcased the Strato Pi Max — an industrial-grade server with expansion slots for custom add-ons like RS-485, CAN, analog I/O, LTE, and more. Designed for long-term deployment, backward compatibility, and complete openness, these systems allow engineers to avoid vendor lock-in while building powerful automation solutions. Maria discusses why industrial customers are moving away from rigid PLCs in favour of flexible Linux-based servers that offer real-time control, security, and remote updates. The new platform includes an RP2040 microcontroller, secure elements, dual Ethernet ports, and dedicated analog converters — all packed into a robust, customisable enclosure.
