Luso Electronics, the sole UK and Ireland representative for SynQor, has announced availability of the MilQor Series Hi-Rel DC-DC converters. In addition to defence and aerospace applications, the high-reliability products are suited to the extremely demanding environmental electrical conditions of oil, gas and subsea exploration, monitoring and production plus other down-hole activities.
This 5W DC-DC converter is housed in a new compact package that is only 27.3mm x 27.3mm x 6.85mm. The MQSA-28-05S uses SynQor's innovative QorSeal packaging technology which ensures the high-efficiency synchronous rectifier technology inside can operate at full power operation from –55C to +125C. The conduction cooled QorSeal packaging employs a gold-plated nickel barrier finish on an extruded aluminium case.
The MQSA-28-05S accepts a continuous input voltage of 16-40V, and it is capable of handling a transient input voltage of 50V for 1 second. This over-voltage transient complies with MIL-STD-704F, RTCA/DO-160G Cat A/R, MIL-STD-1275D (Gen+Bat), and DEF-STAN 61-5 (Part 6)/5 (Gen+Bat) limitations.
Providing up to 5W of power at a typical 80% efficiency throughout the temperature profile, the MQSA-28-05S is a particularly reliable and cost-effective solution compared to traditional hermetic hybrid chip-and-wire converters, says the company.
The MQSA-28-05S provides a continuous short-circuit and over-load protection with input under-voltage lockout, over-voltage shutdown and auto-restart feature. There are no opto-isolators in the converter.
Designed for reliability per NAVSO-P3641-A guidelines with components derated per MIL-HDBK-1547A and NAVSO-P3641-A, and qualified per MIL-STD-810F- consistent with RTCA/D0-160E, the converters are an ideal choice for low-power high-reliability needs. Three separate screening levels are available to suit individual application requirements, says the company.
