World’s smallest 1uF MLCC measures just 0.5mm x 0.25mm x 0.25mm

Murata has commenced mass production of what it believes to be the world’s smallest 1uF monolithic ceramic capacitor (MLCC) measuring just 0.5mm x 0.25mm x 0.25 mm. Featuring X5R characteristics and rated with a 6.3VDC working voltage, the 015008 Series capacitor aids high-density mounting on a PCB substrate as it cuts the component volume ratio by approximately half, says the company. As the space-constrained enclosures of mobile electronics such as smartphones and wearable devices become smaller and lighter, there is a similar requirement placed on the electronic components used. Murata has increased the accuracy of its proprietary elemental technology for this capacitor and expects to further contribute to the miniaturization and sophistication of mobile electronics.
