Intersil has announced the adoption of the company’s ISL91110 switching regulators in Huawei’s new P9 smartphone. The ISL91110 buck-boost switching regulator supplies power-to-key system peripherals in the P9 dual-camera smartphone, using a proprietary, fully-synchronous four-switch architecture. This advanced architecture enables the seamless transition from buck to boost and delivery of up to 2.5A output current at the lowest single-cell Li-ion battery voltages to extend battery life. "Intersil is pioneering advances in power management that directly address the increasing complexity and power demands of smartphones and other mobile devices," said Andrew Cowell, senior vice president, mobile power products, Intersil. "Our latest family of buck-boost switching regulators is one of several key building blocks that help leading smartphone innovators like Huawei achieve their design objectives." The ISL911xx buck-boost switching regulators’ ultra-fast transient response allows handheld devices to handle large current bursts and voltage transients of battery voltage, permitting reliable system operation under all load conditions for an improved user experience. Intersil's buck-boost regulators also offer a tiny footprint requiring very few external components, says the company.
