High-temperature Class II encapsulated power supplies

04-07-2016 | TDK | Power

Capable of operating in ambient temperatures of up to 85C, the KWS-A series single-output 5W to 25W encapsulated power supplies has been introduced by TDK. With a Class II input, the units require no earth ground connection, making them suitable for use in a range of process control, broadcast, T&M and industrial equipment.

The board-mount product line-up comprises four power levels, 5W, 10W, 15W and 25W, and is housed in three compact package sizes. The 5W and 10W units measure 38.1mm x 25.4mm x 21.5mm, the 15W 50.8mm x 25.4mm x 24mm and the 25W models 63.5mm x 25.4mm x 29mm. Four popular output voltages are available, 5V, 12V, 15V and 24V, and all operate from a wide range input voltage of 85 - 265VAC, 47 - 440Hz.

The KWS-A can start up at -40C and operate without forced air cooling in ambient temperatures of up to 85C, and at full load over a -10C to +55C range (+45C for the 5V output 10W to 25W models). Off-load power draw is less than 0.5W and full load efficiencies are as high as 88%. Board design is made simpler and space minimised as no external fusing or electrolytic capacitors are required.

The series carries certification to UL/CSA/IEC/EN 60950-1 and the CE mark for the Low Voltage and RoHS2 Directives. All models comply with EN 55011-A conducted and radiated emissions (class B with the addition of a small X-capacitor) and EN 61000-4-2, -6-2 immunity standards.
