Plessey has announced that Mouser is distributing their ORION beam forming module. The Plessey Orion PLWS3000 series module represented a size and performance breakthrough for LED lighting modules giving architectural and industrial lighting designers a new level of design freedom. By integrating the LED and optics into a tiny module, the module delivers over 3000 lumens from a unit just 5.6mm thick and 82mm in diameter. The module uses their Stellar beam forming technology to achieve a powerful and highly directional beam from such a slim module. Key features include improved light uniformity and excellent thermal performance.
Kristin Schuetter, Mouser’s vice president, supplier management, Semiconductors, said, “We are pleased to continue to partner with Plessey to distribute their innovative LED lighting products to our customers across the globe. We aim to provide design engineers with the latest technologies so that they can create state-of-the-art solutions. The recently announced Orion module, which was named a top-ten product at LuxLive, fits that mission. Since then it has also won the prestigious Sapphire Award for ‘Modular LED Light Engine’ in association with LEDs Magazine, held at the Strategies in Light and The LED Show 2017 at the City National Grove of Anaheim, California. The Sapphire Awards focus on the LED based solid-state lighting (SSL) market from an enabling-technology and elegance-of-design perspective to recognise true technology stars.”
Keith Strickland, Plessey’s chief technology officer, said “By integrating the LED module with the optics, Plessey has delivered the next phase in LED lighting with low cost, high efficiency and greater control of light. We believe that Orion modules will transform the design of retail, industrial, hospitality and outdoor lighting. The improved thermal characteristics allows the heat sink to be reduced in size enabling further size reductions in the end fixture.”
Giuliano Cassataro, Plessey director of sales, said, “Mouser Electronics’ global distribution network is an extremely important channel for Plessey and we are delighted that Mouser now offers the ORION product to its lighting customers worldwide. We now have available a wide range of LED products and solutions manufactured here in the UK. We are seeing demand not only for more differentiated solutions but also for ever increasing design freedom from lighting designers. Our product portfolio also been extended with the PLW7070 range that has been designed using our unique integrated multi-junction die architecture that provides us with a differentiated solution for a diverse range of high power applications in high bay, floodlighting, street lighting, spot lighting and down lighting, in addition to portable torches and lamps. The move for designers to mid-power products because of low cost can now be reversed as we can provide solutions where the overall fixture costs are up to 50% lower. GaN-on-silicon is really starting to come into its own.”
