Compact circuit protection thermistor ideal for appliance motors and fractional horsepower motor drives

Ametherm has announced a new circuit protection thermistor that offers what is claimed to be the industry's smallest diameter for a UL-approved device with a maximum continuous current rating of 6A and energy rating of 40J. Previously, designers had to rely on devices with larger diameters from 15mm to 25mm to achieve the high current and energy ratings of the new SL12 10006. Offering a radial lead package with a maximum diameter of only 13mm and height profile of 5.5mm, the device saves board space, lowers costs, limits excess circuit board heat, and enables faster reset times. The small size and high current rating of the device make it ideal for appliance motors and fractional horsepower motor drives, 300W to 600W switch mode power supplies, LED drivers, and small inverters for recreational vehicles. The device features a resistance of 10ohm, dissipation constant of 13.5mW/C, and thermal time constant of 42s. The thermistor can handle body temperatures up to 210C at 100% of its maximum current rating.
