Available from Variohm EuroSensor is Novotechnik’s TFD-4000 series short-stroke linear transducers. These devices are an ideal and economic solution where high environmental protection, minimal size, high reliability and extremely long life are key factors for medium to high-volume OEM position control applications. They feature single or optionally redundant ratiometric output; typical repeatability of +/- 0.1% FS; a measurement range of 5mm to 50mm; and 12-bit resolution.
The device is based on their RFD-4000 rotary sensor. The housing protection class choices are IP67, IP68 or IP69K. With nominal dimensions of only 40mm x 27mm and a flat profile of only 7mm, the sensor can be discretely constructed on the moving or stationary side of the measurement platform and the tiny magnet simply embedded inside the opposite platform for a very low-profile measurement solution. Two standard magnets options are available to provide 14 mm or 24 mm stroke lengths.
The encapsulated design and touchless Hall Effect technology used on the device enables advanced durability with particularly high shock and vibration ratings, as well as a mechanically unlimited life. A temperature rating of -40C to +125C and full EMC compatibility satisfies a broad range of applications from mobile machinery to industrial controls where short-stroke position measurement or where linear movement verification is needed. The sensor is available with a choice of single, partly- and fully-redundant (c/w rising) ratiometric output from a 0-5VDC supply. The update rate is 2.5kHz, and the standard model is supplied with 0.5m long lead wires. Customisation options for volume applications include special output characteristics such as trapeze or parabolic profiles and a wide choice of connector options.
