New high-reliability white chip LED contributes to the long-term design quality of displays

ROHM has launched the SMLD12WBN1W, a white chip LED with 1608 (1.6mm x 0.8mm) size that delivers class-leading reliability. This new package provides excellent mountability and long operational life, which makes it perfect for use in display panels in industrial and compact consumer equipment. The company's tests have shown that the device maintained 100% of its luminosity after operating for 1,000 hours (@25C, IF=20mA). This signifies an increase of 20x in operational life when matched to other similar products offered in the market. Further tests revealed that the package strength was improved 25 times with the new material in comparison to products using silicone resin. This can contribute to significantly decreasing the occurrence of failures during fabrication when mounting on circuit boards.
