Texas Instruments TAS6424M-Q1 Automotive Class-D Audio Amplifiers implement a 2.1MHz PWM switching frequency, enabling a cost-optimised solution in an extremely small PCB size. The device offers full operation down to 4.5V for start/stop events and exceptional sound quality with up to 40kHz audio bandwidth. The output switching frequency can be set either above the AM band or below to optimise efficiency. Setting the output frequency above the AM band removes AM-band interferences and lessens output filtering and cost.
The amplifier has a built-in load diagnostic function for identifying and diagnosing misconnected outputs. This function also identifies AC-coupled tweeters to help to decrease test time during the manufacturing process. The device provides four channels at 27W into 4Ohm at 10% THD+N and 45W into 2Ohm at 10% THD+N from a 14.4V supply.
This Class-D audio amplifier is excellent for use in automotive head units and external amplifier modules. The devices are AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications. The TAS6421-Q1, TAS6422-Q1, TAS6424L-Q1 and TAS6424-Q1 offer pin compatible options of one, two and four-channels.
