Smart high-side switch provides robust protection

Texas Instruments TPS1HB16-Q1 Automotive Smart High-Side Switch is aimed at use in 12V automotive systems. The device combines robust protection, and diagnostic features to assure output port protection even through harmful events like short circuits in automotive systems. The device defends against faults through a reliable current limit, which, depending on the device version, is adjustable from 4.4A to 49A. The high current limit range provides for use in loads that need large transient currents, while the low current limit range gives increased protection for loads that do not need high peak currents. The device can reliably drive a broad range of load profiles.

The device also gives a high accuracy analog current sense that provides for improved load diagnostics. By reporting load current and device temperature to a system MCU, the device facilitates predictive maintenance and load diagnostics that enhance the system lifetime. The device is offered in an HTSSOP package, which enables a reduced PCB footprint.

Typical applications include automotive display modules, ADAS modules, seat comfort modules, transmission control units, HVAC control modules, body control modules, and incandescent and LED lighting.
