New models added to wide-range input buck-boost DC-DC converter series

TDK Corporation has introduced 12.5A 300W rated models to the i7C series of non-isolated DC-DC converters. The output voltage of these step-up and step-down converters can be modified from 5V to 28V, and they take a broad range input voltage of 9V to 53V. The converters seamlessly transition from buck to boost mode operation with no disruption in performance.

The series can be utilised to get extra high power outputs from a 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V DC power supply. In comparison to similarly rated isolated DC-DC converters, the series provides remarkably lower cost, a more diminutive size and higher efficiency levels. These very compact products are suited for usage in communications, medical, industrial, test and measurement, broadcast and portable battery-powered equipment.

Three mechanical configurations are offered, measuring only 36.8mm wide and 34mm in length. The 12.2mm high open-frame model is suitable for applications needing a very low profile. A baseplate version for conduction cooling to a cold plate is 13mm high, and models featuring an integral heatsink for convection or forced air cooling are 24.9mm high.

The thermal design of the series provides for minimal output de-rating, even with low airflow conditions. The product’s design decreases the demand for large external components, saving cost and board space.

Standard features for the series comprise a trim pin for output voltage adjustment, plus remote sense, remote on-off (positive or negative logic), input under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. As an option, the full-featured models are furnished with a power good signal, output current monitoring, and to reduce system noise, the switching frequency can be synchronised to another model or an external clock.

All models offer safety certification to the IEC/EN 62368-1 and 60950-1 standards, with CE marking to the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.
