Crowd Supply has announced the launch of Watchy, a minimalistic E-Ink watch with various cases to select from, including bare-bones PCB, injection-moulded plastic case, and anodised aluminium. The device, which employs both open-source hardware and software, can be customised with 3D-printed cases and watch straps, allowing users to design unique timepieces. The minimalist device provides both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, enabling it to connect to BLE-enabled devices and internet APIs.
The device, launched by SQFMI with support from Crowd Supply, is produced using an Espressif ESP32-PICO-D4 system-in-package, giving support for various development environment options including Arduino, MicroPython, Espressif’s ESP-IDF, and Zephyr-RTOS. The device is a wearable development platform, enabling users to build their own watch faces or choose from community-created designs. The device provides an ultra-low-power e-paper display with 200 x 200-pixel resolution.
