Safety capacitor in SMD case for EMI/RFI filtering and suppression

Vishay Intertechnology has what is claimed to be the industry’s first SMD ceramic safety capacitors with Y1 rating of 500VAC and 1500VDC. The devices are available now from TTI Europe. The AC line rated safety capacitors are an excellent option for EMI/RFI filtering and suppression. The SMDY1 series gives capacitance up to 4.7nF in a flat profile of 4mm maximum. The capacitors can be employed in harsh environments and display a high humidity robustness grade IIB.

The Class X and Class Y safety capacitors are compliant with IEC60384-14. The series is certified by the VDE for the European Union and UL, CSA and CQC. The series can be employed to filter common mode interference in applications where a double or reinforced insulation is bridged by the Y capacitor (class II), high voltage pulse withstand ability (up to 8kV) is required, or working voltage is up to 500VAC and 1500VDC.

Typical applications include Power supplies, LED driver, Smart e-Meter, Solar inverter, Lighting, HVAC, and Variable frequency drives.
