New position sensor delivers high performance in miniature size

New Yorker Electronics now offers Vishay Intertechnology's new miniature position sensor with a small 12.7mm outer diameter. According to Vishay, the sensor provides higher accuracy and resolution than similar devices of the same size while increasing reliability and durability for harsh defence and industrial operating environments. Also, its plug-and-play operation eradicates the necessity for calibration.

The Vishay MCB RAME012 rotational absolute magnetic encoder employs advanced contactless technology to attain greater than 11-bit accuracy and 14-bit resolution while retaining robustness against external magnetic fields, airborne pollution, vibration, mechanical shock and temperature changes. The device features a useful electrical angle of 360 degrees and works across a temperature range of -40C to +105C. The stainless-steel body design of the device — as well as its on-axis design, slim diameter and lightweight (< 11g) — make it ideal for applications where little space is available, but an angular position requires to be detected with high accuracy. The device is offered in a single-turn variant providing an SSI output signal. Other mechanical and electrical interfaces are also available on request.

With its SSI output and excellent performance/size ratio, the position sensor provides an excellent replacement for potentiometers in missile guidance systems, positioning systems for small industrial actuators (servo drives), gimbals for optical balls and missile seekers, and the multi-dimensional mechanical measurement of surfaces using 3D probes.
